A child’s growth and development can be divided into four periods:
After birth, a baby typically loses about 5% to 10% of their birth weight. By about 2 weeks of age, a baby should begin gaining weight and growing rapidly.
Between 4 and 6 months of age, a baby’s weight should double its birth weight. In the second half of the first year of life, growth is not as rapid. Between 1 and 2 years of age, a child will gain only 5 pounds (2.2 kilograms). Between ages 2 and 5, weight gain will be about 5 pounds (2.2 kilograms) per year.
Taking care of the baby is very important and constant doctor’s check-up is necessary at this time.
